Coexist #15 Melo & Jokic Long Sleeve Rugby Shirt

For a while now in there has been intensifying and growing conversation around which Denver Nuggets number 15 should hang in the rafters of Ball Arena. Melo started his Hall-of-Fame basketball career off hot in Denver putting up incredible numbers as a rookie. Melo was responsible for leading many tough underdog Nuggets teams to new heights throughout his accomplished eight years in Denver. Even though his Nuggets legacy brought much positivity to the city and the organization, his departure to New York didn't sit well with many, even to this day. Years later, a young Nikola Jokic began his now infamous career in Denver, coincidentally sporting the number 15 as well. To many people's surprise, the Joker rose to superstardom eventually bringing home the team's first ever championship. How does that old saying go? Comparison is the thief of joy? Yeah, that one perfectly applies to this ongoing debate of these two legendary Nuggets. 

Through a thoughtful play on the notorious "coexist" bumper sticker, this piece was designed with Colorado, Carmelo and coexistence in mind. I was inspired by the Joker's Serbian Orthodox Christian faith and let his respective denomination's cross serve as the "T" to tie together all of the principles that Jesus represents. We as a people are called by God to show grace to those that you may not agree with. A hard concept for most of us to grasp, especially when talking sports.

In recent times, both Jokic and Melo have displayed multiple interactions showing the utmost respect and grace towards each other. Let us follow their same actions and put petty resentment aside and try to replace it with gratitude instead of hatred. This piece is not only meant to pay homage to Denver, the Nuggets and these two greats, but also, create a deeper spiritual conversation through basketball and fashion. Banners over banter!
